We are looking for ambitious software engineers who are excited to work with the latest technologies to make a real impact in a fast-paced environment.

With over 100 million downloads, our games have been a huge success, and the services that we build to support them need to be highly scaleable to ensure we can meet the growing needs of the business. We use AWS for our infrastructure, utilising the latest tools to create exciting new features that can take our games to the next level.

We have a lot of challenges in the pipeline, including big data, scale, and social aspects, and we are looking for individuals to join our team and take these challenges on.

Founded in 2010 and based in Dundee, Scotland, Outplay Entertainment is the largest independent mobile developer in the UK.

To date, the studio’s games have received over 100 million downloads, have been featured multiple times as Apple’s Editors’ Choice and received a BAFTA nomination. Most recently the studio won the 2016 TIGA Outstanding Growth Award.

With a passionate focus on making the best games, our team of 200 talented and dynamic Outplayers have developed several critically acclaimed original games which include, Castle Creeps, Alien Creeps TD, Mystery Match, Crafty Candy and Bubble Genius as well as Angry Birds POP! in partnership with Rovio. Areas of Delivery 

We are interested in hearing from software engineers of all experience levels to join our talented and growing team. Outplay is a data driven company, and the DevOps team is charged with making our data available to the whole company so that everyone can make informed decisions, and providing advanced services to our games. We are going through a transition to server-less infrastructure running microservices on Amazon AWS, creating a completely new RESTful API for our games, focusing on the latest technologies. Requirements

  • Experienced server-side software engineer, or an ambition for a career in server-side software development if you are just starting out.
  • A quick learner who enjoys learning new technologies.
  • Self-sufficient, but works well within the team to communicate ideas.
  • Experience of server administration and deployment.

Nice-To-Haves

  • Experience of a multitude of programming languages, hopefully including Python.
  • Experience of SQL databases – we use Postgres.
  • Experience of NoSQL databases – we use DynamoDB.
  • Experience of AWS, including: CloudFormation; API Gateway; SQS; SNS; etc.
  • Experience developing RESTful APIs.
  • Experience of microservice architecture.
  • Experience of TDD.
  • Experience of Continuous Deployment.

Other Programming Languages
